pFAn member Elizabeth Jablonski will be introducing the topic of art conservation and explaining how it can help artists and collectors preserve their legacies. She will be doing a slide presentation via webinar/teleconference.
Elizabeth was raised in Maryland, where she frequently visited the museums in the Baltimore-Washington, DC area. It was at the Treasure Houses of Britain exhibition at the National Gallery of Art (November 1985-April 1986) that inspired her to work with art and cultural objects. She earned her Bachelor’s degree in Art History from Hood College in Maryland, studying in painting and drawing in Florence, Italy, during her junior year. She then earned her Masters degree in Art Conservation at Queen’s University, Kingston, Ontario, graduating with a specialization in paintings and painted objects.
She has worked as a conservator in numerous museums throughout North America, such as 1) the Menil Collection, Houston, 2) the Museum of Fine Arts, Boston, and 3) the Art Gallery of Ontario, Toronto. In 2007, she established her own private practice in paintings conservation and collections care, located in Halifax, Nova Scotia. Her clients are individuals with single paintings or small collections, museums, archives and other private and public collectors. She has a special interest in the conservation of modern and contemporary art.
